pat-ford-sailfish-on-fly-01Manzanillo has earned a significant reputation as one of Mexico’s best places to fish for its abundance of Sailfish and Marlin in its shores. The presence for these species has generated important national and international sport fishing tournaments taking place throughout the year in this beautiful port city of Manzanillo, also known as Emerald of the Pacific coast of Mexico.
Internationally recognized as the “Sailfish Capital of the World”, Manzanillo is host to an International Sailfish Tournament held every year during the month of November, involving sport fishing enthusiasts from around the world. Manzanillo was given the name of “Sailfish Capital of the World” in 1957, year in which the number of fish caught exceeded that of other regions, totaling 336 sailfish and only 124 contestants.
The tournament offers great prizes to the first places, ranging from large sums of money to professional fishing equipment. This year, the first prize is a cash payout of one million Mexican pesos, with teams participating from all over Mexico and the rest of North America.
This year, the International Sailfish Tournament is being held from the 14th to the 17th of November and will be celebrating its 60th annual edition. Tesoro Manzanillo, along with the Sport Fishing Club of Manzanillo, invites you to participate and enjoy this internationally renowned event that has led Manzanillo to gain worldwide recognition in the sport.
